Online Course Information

LEC online, developed by the Langley Education Centre, delivers high school courses in an online environment. LEC online allows you to complete a course:

    • Anywhere
    • At anytime

Registration for LEC online courses occurs year-round (late August- April 30th). An online course can be completed at the student's own pace within a maximum of 2 consecutive semesters. Online course work is primarily completed at home with teacher support at LEC. Exams are written at LEC.

An added feature of LEC online courses, is the availability of its teachers. Along with regular online support and contact, teachers are also available at the Langley Education Centre for tutorial sessions. Online students are welcome to come in to get "in-person" help if needed.

Students registering for an LEC online course MUST have the following:

    • An email address
    • Regular access to a computer
    • Internet connection at home or place of study (not at a library or Internet café, etc.)

Students can register for LEC online courses year-round (late August- April 30th).

Students have 2 semesters to complete an online course from the time that that they register. In other words, they have the remainder of the semester in which they register and the following semester to complete an online course. For example, a student who registers in September 2011 has until June 2012 to finish the course. A student who registers in December 2011 has until June 2012 to finish the course.

An LEC online course is self-paced course. However, there may be deadlines. The teacher of the course may provide students with a course outline indicating due dates for assignments. As students can register at anytime, the dates will not be fixed but rather in terms of weeks from the start date. (For example: Week 4 - Assignment 1 is due, Week 6 - Assignment 2 is due...)

All exams used for evaluation (such as final exams), must be written in-person at LEC.

A student may complete a course as quickly as he/she is able.

For each online course, the teacher will be available at the Langley Education Centre for a weekly tutorial time. Students may come to LEC during these times to work and /or get help.

Students may be temporarily denied access to a course. Teachers have the ability to deny a student access to their course. Reasons for denying access: failures to submit assignments, failure to show up for exams, loss of contact with student, etc.
