FAQ

Emergency Closure Information: How can I find out about school closures during periods of heavy snow or power outages, etc.?

Winter storms sometimes force Langley School District to close schools due to heavy snowfalls or power failures. If you are uncertain about the status of schools in the district, there are several ways of getting information. You can go to the Langley School District website at www.sd35.bc.ca and click on the "Emergency Closures" link in the left hand sidebar. General information and information about the status of individual schools is posted there. By clicking on the "Additional Information" link you will access a complete list of alternative school status information sources. You can phone the district's Information Hotline for an updated message at 604-532-1453; status information is also sent to radio stations CKNW 980 AM, CKWX 1130 AM, and STAR 107.1 FM; you can phone the School Board Office at 604-534-7891 (although the switchboard is often busy, and callers may be referred to the Information Hotline).

If I can't attend semestered classes, is there another way to complete grade 11 and 12 courses?

For students who can't attend semestered classes, most of our grade 11 and 12 courses are available as directed studies courses or online courses. In this self-paced approach, students receive teacher assistance and have a maximum of 1 year from the date of registration to complete a course. Refer to LEC's Agenda for days / times when the school is closed.

How can I find out more information about the online courses?

Contact Lori Thomsen at LECSS (604-534-7155 ext 258 or lthomsen@sd35.bc.ca).

Can I take just one course at LEC?

You can take one or more courses to complete grad requirements, improve a letter grade, or meet a prerequisite for a post secondary institution. You can also take a full program at LEC leading to graduation or high school completion.

If I start a course, may I drop it or transfer to another course?

Our policy on refunds is very reasonable, giving students a substantial refund within specified time periods. Also designed to help students is our FIRST TIME FEE-FREE transfer option. Ask us for details or check your LEC Agenda.

How much does a course cost?

Fees are due and payable in full at the time of registration. Registration is not complete until all fees are paid. Fees include a tuition fee (if applicable), a materials fee and a student fee. The parking fee is optional. International students have a separate fee schedule.

What fees are involved?

The cost of courses for students varies for several reasons -- the program, your age, your level of education and your enrollment at another secondary school.

Below are two charts that may help you:
Grade 10, 11 & 12 Grad Program Fees
ABE Program Fees

Grade 10, 11 & 12 Grad Program Fees

All applicable fees are due and payable in full at the time of registration. Registration is NOT complete until all fees are paid. A penalty fee will be charged for each NSF cheque. The counsellor and vice principal are available to discuss situations of hardship.
